Project Book

My Project Book was inspired by the Memory Drawing activity. I randomly selected pages from a dictionary, scanned them, and printed them on heavy drawing paper. Then I chose a word from the page to "remember about".
The process was initially write everything I could remember about the word for two minutes, make a contour line drawing with my eyes closed for two minutes and then open my eyes and erase in an interesting way. I was then supposed to fill in the space going for a 60/40 split of light and dark (or dark and light). This process varied as I created a series of them and often times I ended up writing for much longer.
Sometimes I was surprised what I remembered about a word, such as with "azalea" I had forgotten that on an afternoon when Nathan and I were playing in the backyard, we observed a honeybee buzzing from flower to flower to get nector in our azalea bush and that Angelica had made a lovely bouquet for our house with azalea flowers.
Artistically, Lauren cautioned me to vary the size and contrast of my text, so I began using different pencils to get variety. She told me to try to let words run off the page (I'm trying to give up control and do that! I swear!) These are going to be made into individual little books (like the Map Books - but I wanted to photograph the drawings before they were all folded up).
