Continuing on the subject of my love affair with books I spent much time in the awesome UF Art Library today on the research assignment. This assignment I love... the sketch book of Marlene Dumas blew me away. I have not looked at this work before. The gritty approach to this working idea of perfection or rather lack there of, intrigues me and is reflected strongly through the balance of her bold approach with an air of gentleness. These watercolor sketchbooks are available immediately to the viewer in their directness, the models face is in your face immediately! There is no escaping this haunting truth. I could do a whole Project Book just on the energy I get from looking at this book!
