Day 3: Collage Study and One Minute Drawings

My collage study contained imagery from a National Geographic article about archaeological excavations at the Mt. Vesuvius site. I really thought the portraits and the beads with faces were a strong focal point and added visual interest to the compositions. Also, the blue and the orangy color from the scroll were nice complementary colors. Craig said I was "fussing" with my collages too much..."Just Do It!" I was (am) still struggling with process/product. Will try to let go.
In the morning we did one minute drawings based on the work of sculptor Erwin Wurm. This was fun and I can see where it could have classroom application for figure drawing. My sketches were pretty awful though...my apologies to all my classmates!
In the afternoon, I finished my research! Hooray! It was really interesting to look at the sketchbooks of all the artists. It made me realize a sketchbook is not intimidating...it really can be anything you want it to be. Free drawing is not just for kids!
