Kim – Mini-Collages
Influenced by Frank Stella, my collages are mainly constructed of torn organic shapes in vibrant, bright hues of lines, patterns and textures. The negative space creates a playful contrast of Da Vinci’s humorous, realistic-detailed faces against the non-objective shapes. Enjoyed the transformations. Transformation 1 – Abstract - Use of contrast, black and white, use of patterns, bold line, organic and geometric shapes. Medium: black sharpie. Transformation 2 – Non-objective - Use of complimentary colors, organic and geometric shapes, line and value. Medium: color pencils. Transformation 3 – Abstract expressionism - Use of gestural lines, pattern, and organic shapes. Mixed media: crayon, watercolors and sharpie marker. Transformation 4 - Monochromatic abstract -Use of cross-hatching for value. Medium: purple ink.
Introduce Middle School students to surrealism and artists such as Salvador Dali. Students will create a surreal collage and create four transformations from their collage using six or more elements and principles of art in various mediums.
