These are some images from my altered book. I really like working with handwriting and included my real handwriting, writing with my left hand, and writing with my eyes closed for variety. In the pages I wrote with charcoal pencil because I liked the soft texture. I liked the transparencies because they added layers to the images and helped to tell the story. I used the image of Leonardo's fetus for repetition throughout the book and tried to keep a neutral color palette (created with gesso and coffee) accented with a few blue pages and splotches of ochre and crimson. My favorite page was the last one when I cut out the shape of the fetus and then put a baby inside that was removable but attached with a string (umbilical cord - Lauren's idea!). This was representative of my son being born via C section. I enjoyed the creation of the altered book. I began to let go with this project and experiment with the images. It was my favorite project we did in the class.Friday, July 23, 2010
