peer review
Pink Pasture 1954 by Milton Avery
I was around Sandra's work and creative habit all week due to the proximity of our work areas so I feel somewhat fluent with her process and projects, especially her altered book. Sandra's quiet persona as well as the subtle personality of her subdued palette is superbly reflected in these simply composed pages that are pared down to the bare essentials. Her passion for mapping her personal geography yields rich results, bringing to mind the Ocean Park Series by Richard Diebenkorn and the landscapes of Milton Avery. The balance of flat color fields with drawn and painted linear elements reveals softened hints of the books history and her painterly response to its original contents.
