Perhaps the most important issue for me in teaching botanical painting is getting students to look at plants in such a way as to really see the plant as a living thing, not a still life or inanimate object. My classes begin with drawing the plant. Silverpoint is a great technique in getting students to see the minute detail in a plant. Plus this drawing technique is beautiful on its own and deserves its own class. I plan to do more silverpoint in my own work, plus develop a class to add to my current line up. This was a very exciting discovery for me!
