The wax paper/watercolor resist technique can be a strategy to teach shading using hatching/cross-hatching. The ‘Essential Question’ of the lesson plan can be “How does hatching and cross-hatching create inverse shading?” After teaching shading with traditional media and observation drawing, the students can use these drawing techniques creatively.
Brief Lesson Plan:
Students sketch a drawing of a found objecton. This will be drawn like we did with the silverpoint sketches done on Friday. Use this drawing to ‘trace’ wax resist onto another sheet and then coat with watercolor.
